ROCK N ROLL BINGO

THURSDAYS // 8PM // 21+

Three fun-filled 40 minute sessions of rock and roll bingo benefiting local charities every Thursday night in the Williwaw Social Hall throughout the winter. Bring your pals, your dauber, and your lucky troll because in addition to raising funds for local charities we've got some killer prizes* from righteous local shops and restaurants you're going to want to win!

Here's how it works: Instead of numbers being called out in a normal game of bingo, we play 15-20 second bursts of songs from the past and present. The numbers on the bingo cards have also been replaced with artists and song names. So with your bingo card in hand and your dauber on standby, listen out for the songs being played and mark them off as you would a normal game of bingo.

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO PLAY OR TO POTENTIALLY WIN A PRIZE -- there is a SUGGESTED DONATION of $6 to play -- trust us when we say you risk being openly mocked if you show up to play at a charity event with alligator arms!

100% of donations are shared evenly between three local charities of the week. *There are no cash prizes like you play for at a licensed bingo hall playing regular bingo - this is not real bingo.

This week's local charities:
AWAIC - AWAIC serves all victims of domestic violence including women, men and children. AWAIC’s programs and services “Lend a Helping Hand” to our participants.

The Children's Lunchbox - Our mission is to feed hungry children in safe community environments.

Friends of Pets - Anchorage - Rescuing abandoned or abused pets, helping senior pets get a second chance at love, assisting families in crisis and making our community a better place for pets to live and thrive.

PAINT-A-SCARF

SUNDAYS // 3P // ALL AGES // $49

Paint a Scarf Pub brings silk painting to local restaurants, bars, delis and coffee houses.

It takes an hour to train and paint, then an hour to dry and dine. Paint together – then enjoy dinner and drinks at Williwaw. It’s the perfect girls’ night out. One scarf per person.

Please be on time. Our staggered start times rely on painters starting and finishing on time. Choose from our four most popular designs. Allow two hours – one to train and paint, and one to dry and dine.

Training will take place via tablet computer. Bring eyeglasses if you need them to see a 7-inch screen. Children age 9 and up are welcome. We will be painting in a facility where alcohol is served, so minors need to be accompanied by their parents. Cancellation policy: Fully refundable if cancelled 48 hours prior. Some credit may be given for cancellations within 48 hours - call for details.

P.O.S.

JANUARY 20TH // 8PM // 21+ // $25 - $30

P.O.S. (from Doomtree) is coming north for his first live show in Alaska. This Minneapolis native is signed to Rhymesayers Entertainment and is the founding member of the indie hip hop collective DOOMTREE.

Local Support : TBA

BIO: Doomtree co-founder, punk philosopher and lyrical bomb-thrower Stefon Alexander, aka P.O.S makes tight, declamatory music that builds on the Minneapolis-bred rapper and producer’s penchant for grinding beats and radical lyrics. Known for welding hip-hop with guitar squalls, screamed vocals, and futuristic beats fit for a Berlin nightclub, P.O.S steps even further into genre-blurring territory with “sleepdrone/superposition,” a nearly nine-minute-long sprawling masterpiece that touches on “being black, beefs, loves, hurts, victories, pride and the future” all while reflecting over the past two years since a kidney surgery sidelined him from making music. It’s never felt better to have him back in action.

ANCHORAGE FOLK FESTIVAL: THE SWEETBACK SISTERS

JANUARY 28TH // DOORS 7PM // SHOW 8PM // 21+ // $15

The Anchorage Folk Festival presents and Williwaw is stoked to host the 2017 Anchorage Folk Festival second weekend national act headliners The Sweetback Sisters in the Social Hall on Saturday, January 28th!

Sweetback Sisters Emily Miller and Zara Bode may not be blood relations, but their precise, family-style harmonies recall the best of rock and country music from the 1950s and 60s. Together with their fine band of brothers, the Sweetback Sisters carry the torch of country music’s finest golden era performers.

The rollicking country swing of the Sweetback Sisters is as infectious as it is heartbreaking. Their charismatic charm harkens back to the golden era of both the silver screen cowgirl and the ersatz cowboy stars of local UHF TV kiddie shows. That whimsical exterior is wrapped around a core of deeply felt love for traditional country music styles and a palpable joy in playing and singing together. Like their pseudo-sister role models, the Davis Sisters, the Sweetback Sisters sing country songs in close, surrogate-sister harmony and of course their signature matching dresses. Their repertoire combines several of the Sisters’ passions — country music from before they were born and new interpretations of those traditions — to create a fresh take on what it means to be country.

The Sweetback Sisters have been featured on Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion and touring relentlessly since they released Chicken Ain’t Chicken in 2009 on Signature Sounds. Look for their new album, King of Killing Time, due May of 2017.
